An explosion and electrical fire at the Shaw Telecommunications downtown headquarters yesterday resulted in a “major telecommunications failure.” There has been a huge disruption in service for government networks, hospital computers, some provincial and national companies, 9-1-1 access, and residential internet, cable and telephone (landline) service. Streets are closed downtown, resulting in chaos, I’m sure.
The good news is that no one was hurt and crews are frantically working to restore service.
The delicious irony is that 2 radio stations have been shut down – one of which is the popular FM station COUNTRY 105.
During Stampede week.
FUNNY!
I was snickering – until I found out that I’m affected too. No email coming in – I’ve had to hijack the neighbour’s (unsecured) internet access to blog. The thought of no internet freaked me out this morning
FUNNIER!
No Internet!!! That’s the stuff that nightmares are made of! Time for the deep breathing exercises from voice class!
Horrifying – the thought now of no internet.
How low I’ve sunk. And I read (online) that this is all changing my brain. At night sometimes I have plans to “fast” from the internet for a day – haven’t made it past 9:00 AM yet…
