It’s another big weekend in the world of soccer. I’m not a fan, but my husband is. I was NOT looking for anything remotely related to it but I stumbled on something that combines Carmina Burana, soccer, the Vienna Boys’ Choir, and a conductor for whom I have the highest respect.
Gerald Wirth, now director of the Vienna Boys’ Choir, spent about 5 years in Calgary in the 90s as the Artistic Director of the Calgary Boys’ Choir. He also put together a chamber choir of professional singers and I had the tremendous privilege of playing the piano for the group. It was the most satisfying and enjoyable accompanying job I’ve ever had. His conducting was so precise and easy to follow – no guess-work or mind-reading required by me! He is where he deserves to be.
So – in the spirit of this weekend’s Euro 2012 Final – here’s a rather cute video with Gerald at the piano, conducting the Vienna Boys’ Choir. It put a smile on my face.
Thanks for sharing Ladona…and I noticed that he is playing my favourite piano, a Bösendorfer! Cool though, how this links soccer to voice/music!
I love the Bosendorfer, too. Glad you liked it, Tim.
