This is only minutely related to music.
My sister and her husband lost everything in a wild fire that has destroyed almost half their town in Northern Alberta (Slave Lake). They escaped with the clothes on their backs, their dog, and 2 photo albums. Although wild fires were burning in the forests surrounding the town, there was no warning that the town would be affected.
She plays the piano as well – hours a day in winter time. Of course the piano and all her music will be gone, as well as all the lovely antiques that had been passed down to her and the beautiful hand-made quilts that she spent many hundreds of hours on. These things can never be replaced.
Please keep them and the rest of the evacuees in your prayers.
LaDona- Thanks so much for sharing. I will definitely be keeping your sister and the rest of the evacuees in my prayers!
LaDona, I’m so sorry to hear this tragedy affected your family. I saw footage on the news last night and it is devastating.
Thanks, Sarah and Anne,
I think we’re all still in shock. But the human spirit is amazingly resilient and the support has been overwhelming.
What a devastating situation! I cannot begin to imagine such a shocking and sudden loss. Please keep us updated on how they are doing. Once they begin to settle into a new home and perhaps your sister is at a piano again, would it be appropriate perhaps to send her a gift of some music? I am sure that our online community would happily participate in helping her build a bit of a library back up…
Thank you, Luba. That would be such a lovely idea. I’ll keep you all posted.
